The QUIT Now! program can help. The Seventh-day
Adventist Church has been running the QUIT Now!
program for more than 30 years. The program
has a 30-90 per cent success rate, and most
of those who complete the program stop smoking
within two weeks.
Research shows smokers move through a series
of stages when quitting. QUIT Now! acts as a
guide through each stage. The program uses group
activities and simple strategies to help smokers
beat their addiction. The program consists of
eight sessions over two weeks.
It involves seven steps:
1. Preparing to quit.
2. It's time to quit.
3. Conquering nicotine addiction.
4. Choosing new habits.
5. Living smoke free.
6. Staying stopped.
7. Winning at life.
This final step in quitting is about becoming
a life-long non-smoker.
