ADVENTIST COMMUNITY SERVICES IS IRONING OUT DETAILS

... with FEMA and ADRA
for assistance to be given to conferences that open their campgrounds to Katrina evacuees, and for help to be ready for summer camp and camp meeting use. Initial plans include that ACS will provide blankets, personnel care kits and other needed items and also will arrange transportation to help relocate the families and individuals. ADRA has indicated their willingness to provide food and any additionally-needed tents or buses. So far, we know of more than 20 conferences that are looking into participating.

LOMA LINDA UNIVERSITY RESPONSE

Several Loma Linda University Medical Center employees are part of the Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) system, called previously for both the 9-11 disaster and last year's tsunami aid. The team consists of physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and chaplains from local area hospitals. The DMAT 2 team, which includes Loma Linda employees, was deployed by FEMA on Friday (02.09.05)

LAKE REGION CONFERENCE OPENING HOMES FOR 80 FAMILIES

A church member made arrangements for 80 separate homes to be opened to already-identified evacuees of Hurricane Katrina. There will be 30 houses available in Detroit, Michigan, and 40 in Flint, Michigan. They might be using their conference campground as a way station for evacuees to stay, if necessary, until final arrangements have been ironed out. The camp is close to Andrews University and Academy and the Ruth Murdoch Elementary School.
